What is Google

Google is one of the five most popular websites in the world. Google is a web search engine that lets you find other sites on the internet based on keyword searches. Google also provides specialized searches through blogs, catalogs, videos, news items and more.

Originally known as BackRub, Google is a search engine that started development in 1996 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page as a research project at Stanford University. Larry and Sergey then decided to change its name to Google. They registered the google.com domain on September 15, 1997, and incorporated the name on September 4, 1998.

Google took the big step to stand out from its competition and grew exponentially with the PageRank. This excellent technique was able to sort search results. This was the game changer.

How Google Works

Google uses automated software to read, analyze, compare, and rank your website.
Which means those visual elements that may matter to you such as the layout of the site or if you are using flash, this thing is ignored by Google. Think like this; Google is like a blind person reading a book anything with flashy things won’t be seen.

That’s why you need to think like Google and play by its rules.

Now you might be wondering what a ranking is? Well, to put it simply a classification on a search engine is a web page listing and relative placement on a results page for an individual query, this is also known as SERP which means search engine results page.

When you type anything on Google, you will get results. The most relevant and most important websites list in descending order in the results.
For Google, the relevancy depends on how well a page matches a specific word search. This search is provided to give its users the best experience when they are using Google.
The page importance, on the other hand, depends on the quantity and most importantly quality of backlinks that point to your site from other sites telling how important are you for that particular search.

Google Spiders

But how Google gets this information? Well, Google visits your site using programs also named as robots or spiders. These spiders crawl your site and read thru every page.
Google updates its main index regularly so don’t worry if you don’t see a change in your ranking overnight.
