We are going to start first talking about indexation and later on we are going to see a plan on how to create our backlinks and why they are so important to reach the top positions in Googles search results.

For the indexation part, please head over to the following posts:

In the link building strategy you need to be patient, don’t rush things, it all takes time. Prepare your linking plan well. Remember it’s all about planning everything well like we did before with our keyword research. Lastly, you need to take into account that you must build your links gradually and steadily. This is critical because you must look natural in the eyes of Google so don’t build more than five backlinks per day.

Anchor Texts

We are going to get keywords with different unique anchor texts. We are going to do this because if you only use your keyword phrase you run the risk to optimize your backlinking profile over and your campaign will not look natural to Google, and it will harm you in the long term.

That’s why we are going to use different anchor texts. But you might be wondering now what is an anchor text and how to use them? Well, an anchor text is a word or a phrase that is used in the hyperlink, pointing to your website.

Usually, anchors are the same thing as Keywords, but once we call them particularly, then they have some significance over keywords.

Anchor text is the text that shows up INSTEAD of the link when to use the <a href=……> HTML code. Here’s an example:

Let’s say that I want to link the site to my main website which is:

If I only add the link at the end of the post, it will show up as

However, I want it to show up as “Create Handmade Jewelry” since that is what I am trying to rank it.

I will have to use the following code:

<a href=”http://www.instructables.com”>create handmade jewelry</a>

That way, “Create Handmade Jewelry” will show up, and if I click it, it will take me to instructables.com

You will want to use the terms/keywords that you want to rank your main website for as anchor text. In the example above, I wanted to list my site instructables.com for the keyword ‘create handmade jewelry’ so I used that as my anchor text.

Our Backlinking Plan

In our Backlinking Plan we are going to use the following types of anchors:

  • Target Anchor
  • Long Tail Anchor
  • Brand Anchor
  • Naked URL Anchor
  • Generic Anchor

To explain what anchors are, we are going to use the keyword “Diet Plan Factor” and all its variations according to the different types of anchors. Let’s go over all of them quickly.

Target Anchor is the Target Keyword we want to rank at the Top Position. Just remember Buyers Keyword Findings where we have looked for Target Keyword and the other Buyers Keywords. So Target Anchor is our Target Keyword which has maximum traffic, and we want to rank it at top positions on Page One. In this case, the target anchor is “Diet Plan Factor” and we are going to use it too for the rest of the anchors.

Long Tail Anchors are Keywords which have decent traffic. Take a look at the following picture where we can see all the different types of long tail anchors that we can have from our target anchor that is Diet Plan Factor.

The Brand Anchor will represent your site.

Naked URL Anchor is when we used our site URL as an anchor.

The Generic Anchors are the type of keywords like click here to visit this site, visit now; this site is good, etc.

For your backlink profile to look natural to Google, the anchor texts of most backlinks should include your website URL, brand name, domain name and many other keywords, not connected with your main targeted keyword.

The distribution of our Anchors

The percentage of anchor vary, but if we take into account that we have to distribute 100% of our anchors, I will recommend that you use 25% of your anchors that include your brand name and other 25% of your anchors that include your URL of your website or just the URL. Then 10% of your anchors should have long tail anchors, 1% apply it to your target keyword and the rest distribute it thru generic anchors which are the other 39%. If you noticed on the pictures that we used to show the different types of anchors, you can see that we use the same distribution.

Build Backlinks

Another thing to take in mind is to build backlinks from page ranks ranging from a PR of 1 until a PR of 9. Get high PR backlinks but also get low PR backlinks, so you look natural to Google. Then it’s imperative that you do interlinking in your pages.

Connect pages using backlinks but don’t overuse them. This is great also because you will keep the user reading more of your content and this will have a great impact on the search results.

Now that we know the basics to apply for our website, we are going to take it a step further and see how you should build your backlinks on a weekly basis. Take a look at the following 5 week plan where we build our backlinks.

Backlinks Plan: Week 1

Now that you now everything that you must apply, you should do it but gradually. In the first week create profiles in social media and social bookmarks and get backlinks there, here implement the generic anchor links. Head over to the Social Media Tutorial to learn and apply everything there.

Backlinks Plan: Week 2 and 3

The second week don’t do anything, just let it grow naturally.

Then, the third week do all the indexation that we cover in the SEO Tutorial Part 6: Tips to Index and Track Your Website and also start your game plan by submitting your content to ezines and web 2.0. Over here apply your brand, target, naked and long tail anchors. Here is a list of web 2.0 that you must follow, again I repeat it like with every week of the plan you don’t want to create more than five backlinks per day.

In the list we have:

WEB 2.0

Page Rank

Remember to place unique and quality content all the time, content that is relevant to the user and that will solve the problem that the user might have. Also as a plus embed a youtube video from your own or create one out of the article if you can using the tools that we explain in the YouTube Tutorial Part 12: Create Thousands of Free Videos Without Filming.

Backlinks Plan: Week 4 and 5

Then for the fourth week provide social signals to your website. In the fifth week apply the techniques of syndication marketing.  Now rinse and repeat the process and you will soon get to the top results in Google.
